Turbinia - the first steam turbine-powered steamship. Built as an experimental vessel in 1894, Turbinia was the fastest ship anywhere in the world at that time. Demonstrated dramatically at the Spithead Navy Review in 1897. Today, Turbinia is on display at the Discovery Museum in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Shown here while travelling at 35 knots
