Evangeline
Evangeline is an epic poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow published in 1847 which describes the separation of Evangeline and her beloved Gabriel during the expulsion of the Acadian community from Nova Scotia by the British in 1755-1764. Having searched in vain for Gabriel, Evangeline later became a Sister of Mercy and they were reunited upon his death. Artist: Frances Brundage
