Henry Sacheverell (1674-1724) was an English high church Anglican clergyman who achieved nationwide fame in 1709 after preaching an incendiary 5 November sermon denouncing the Whig government, for which he was arrested and tried for high crimes and misdemeanours against the State. His actions created a huge demand for printed ephemera and the playing cards are the most renowned example
