St Katharine's Hospital. Around 1148 Matilda, wife of King Stephen, established a hospital in the parish of St. Botolph without Aldgate near the Tower of London for a master, brethren, sisters, and thirteen poor persons. It would later become the Royal Hospital and Collegiate Church of St. Katharine by the Tower
