Prince Albert, Duke of York, the future King George VI (1895 - 1952), was a keen tennis player in the 1920s; in July 1920 with his partner Louis Greig he won the RAF doubles competition. But their entry into the Wimbledon Championships in 1926 proved unhappy for the Duke. The Club had placed the match on Court Number Two and the size and proximity of the crowd was too much for his nerves; his match was lost in straight sets
