Cavalry goes into action on West Front. On reverse - On July 16th 1916, Cavalry went into action for the first time since the beginning of the War in 1914 on the West Front. After the attack on the German second and third line in the Somme battle, detachments of Dragoon Guards (7th) and Indian Horse (20th Deccan) were sent forward and encountered several parties of scattered Germans killing about 16 and capturing about 30.
