Captain Rice and Lieutenant Lilley playing cards at Poperinghe, 1917, by Lieutenant Ernest Stafford Carlos (1881-1917), 8th Battalion Royal East Kents. Carlos was killed by shellfire in battle wood, Zillebeke, on the evening of 14 June 1917 while leading his platoon in an attack; his body now lies in the Chester Farm Cemetery, Zillebeke
