FE2bs, machines of the Royal Flying Corps In the air

In the air. The planes may be FE2bs, machines that were in service with the Royal Flying Corps from the Autumn of 1915 and in operation at the Front in January 1916. The pilot's seat was just under the front wing and the observer or gunner sat right out in front of the pilot in the nose - evidently, Nevinson's viewpoint in this composition, looking back at his own plane's starboard wingtip.. Christopher Wynne Nevinson, Ara Ri Roi Rba Neac Ns (1889-1946). Nevinson Was A Pacifist And Volunteered To Work For The Red Cross, Later Working For The Royal Army Medical Corps. He Was Invalided Out Of The Army In 1916. Nevinson'S War Paintings Confirm That He Saw The War As A Tragic Event And They Are Among The Masterpieces Of His Career
