Blackfriars south range

A detailed view of a studded board door in the far right bay of the Blackfriars south range, with a ruined partial wall on the right. Blackfriars was originally a Dominican Friary, and later Company Halls and almshouses. The building is medieval with 18th and 19th century alterations. The range was restored between 1978 and 1981 and consists of; Cordwainers hall on the left, Butchers hall, Tanners hall and Smiths hall on the right. The latter has a boarded door un a moulded surround with the Company arms above, dated 1679. Above is a 19th century bay with a window with gothic surround. The range is now a restaurant, tourist informations centre and exhibition space
