Castle Keep, Castle Garth, Newcastle Upon Tyne
A cityscape of Newcastle, looking south over the River Tyne from the roof of Castle Garth Keep - The keep was built between 1168 and 1178, with the roof and battlements added c1811 by Newcastle Corporation. It was later restored c1848 for the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle. The tower is square in plan with three storeys. In the foreground is the River Tyne, with the Tyne Bridge on the left, Swing Bridge, and High Level Bridge on the right. The image continues looking south
