Laing workers pouring concrete for the walls of the cooling water intake caisson for Coryton Oil Refinery, during the first phase of its construction at Red Lion Wharf, Gravesend. On 30th November 1951, the cooling water intake caisson for Coryton Oil Refinery was moved across the Thames from the dry dock at the Red Lion Wharf, Gravesend, to Tilbury Docks. The removal of the caisson from Gravesend to Tilbury marked the completion of the first stages in the unit's construction. The structure was towed with shuttering fixed, ready for continuation of concreting at Tilbury
