A detailed image of Neville Whittaker, an architect
A detailed image of Neville Whittaker, an architect and co-writer of Historic Architecture of Durham with Ursula Clark, seen kneeling in the portico of Wynyard Hall. The house was built between 1822 and 1841 for the third marquess of Londonderry. The interior was gutted by fire in 1841 and the exterior was rebuilt to keep the original design. Neville Whittaker was an architect and conservationist, and was awarded an OBE in 1996 when he retired. He co-authored the book Historic Architectur of County Durham with Ursula Clark, whose shadow is in the image. He died in September 2008 at the age of 76
