An exterior view of Durham University's Palace Green Library, showing the rear elevation of the c1965 extension from the west bank of the River Wear. The Palace Green Library was established in 1882 by A. W. Blomfield as lecture rooms, and later became part of the library when collections began to expand. The extension was built c1965 to cater for further expansion of the library's collections, and designed by architect George Pace. Stone was used to help the modern building blend in with its surroundings, and mirrors the castle walls
