The Globe, Durlston Head, Swanage, Purbeck, Dorset
The Globe in the grounds of Durlston Head Castle - The Globe, or Great Globe, was erected in around 1891 by George Burt, who built Durlston Head Castle and developed the estate as a tourist attraction. The globe has a 10 foot radius. Around the base a tablet records the distance to the stars and planets, and to the rear of the globe are a series of panels inscribed with quotations. The Globe is Grade II listed and shows how the Victorians viewed the world, as well as the universe
