Gun Deck, Pendennis Castle
PENDENNIS CASTLE, Falmouth, Cornwall. The upper gun deck in action in the late 1540s. England was at war with France from 1542-6 and again in 1549. Pendennis and its sister fortress at St Mawes guarded the approaches to Falmouth Harbour. Reconstruction by Ivan LAPPER
