The annual Gala Day was held at the Laing Sports Ground on 9th June 1973. Attractions included police dog demonstrations, model aircraft, the Royal British Legion band, children's races, and sports. In the evening there was dancing and bingo in the Club House, and beer and beat in the marquee. Over 2, 000 people attended the gala, and over 600 people stayed for the evening entertainment.
