Lynmouth, Lynton and Lynmouth, North Devon, Devon
The view looking north-west along the East Lyn River at Lynmouth with Bevan's Lyn Valley Hotel on Lynmouth Street in the left foreground_x000D_. This photograph shows Lynmouth prior to the devastating flood of 15th August 1952. Following a period of exceptionally heavy rain, flood water and rubble was carried down to Lynmouth from the narrow valleys of Exmoor. The flood cost 34 lives and almost destroyed the village of Lynmouth. The remodelled village incorporates flood overflow systems designed to cope with one and half times the amount of water that flowed through Lynmouth on that day
