A detail of the metalwork crown suspended from a Coronation Arch on the Mall, designed for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II - Eric Bedford designed four Coronation Arches which were built and positioned over the Mall for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2nd June 1953. From each arch, which featured fan-shaped designs, was suspended a metalwork crown. The arches were mounted with metalwork heraldic beasts. The arches were lit by floodlights at night
