The Mansion House and Attached Railings, Doncaster
An interior view of the entrance hall in Mansion House, looking up the staircase - The mayoral residence was built for the Doncaster Corporation between 1746 and 1748 by James Paine, with additions made between 1801 and 1805 by William Lindley. The entrance hall has a large Imperial staircase, or a double staircase, with plain and scrolled iron balusters. Over the first landing is a Venetian opening with four pairs of Corinthian columns supporting the cornices. The upper hall behind has panelling on the walls and a curved ceiling with moulded cornices
