SUNDERLAND GREYHOUND STADIUM, SOUTH TYNESIDE
SUNDERLAND GREYHOUND STADIUM, SOUTH TYNESIDE. Dogs racing beneath floodlights on the racetrack at the Sunderland Greyhound Stadium, East Boldon, with the grandstand beyond silhouetted at dusk
The Sunderland Greyhound Stadium opened in 1940. By the 1960s it had lost its license and operated as an unlicensed racetrack, also hosting speedway races. Greyhound racing resumed at the stadium in the 1990s and in 2010 it was one of only 25 licensed tracks operating in Britain.
