A view of a memorial column around 400m south of Lemmington Hall, originally erected in 1786 in Surrey by Sir John Soane and re-locted to Northumberland in 1928, seen in the distance with fields and foliage in the foreground The column was erected to commemorate the parents of James Evelyn by Sir Soane. It was moved to Northumberland in 1928 by Sir Stephen Aitchisonm which entailed using a light electric railway constructed especially for the column to be moved. The column is ashlar on a squared-stone base, and has a low platform. At the base of the column is a serpent that swallows itself, and at the top of the column is an eternal flame, standing at around 15 metres in total
