In 1540 Francisco de Coronado marched north from Mexico City with 300 Spanish soldiers, 800 Mexican Indians, 1500 horses in search of the legendary Seven Cities of Antila. He found no wealth, but devastated the indigenous peoples he encountered. The image is a printed reproduction of a 1905 Frederick Remington painting
