The 1876 Presidential election. The dead-locked South Carolina state legislature in Columbia. In Florida, Louisiana, and South Carolina, the election outcome was deadlocked, with each candidate claiming victory. Eventually a special High Commission resolve the deadlock in favor of Republican Rutherford Hayes. Frank Leslies illustrated Newspaper, Dec. 1876
