1929 advertisement for Kelloggs Corn Flakes, showing a Camp Fire Girl feeding cereal to a small child. In 1894 William Kellogg created corn flakes as healthy breakfast for Battle Creek Sanitarium, where his brother John was superintendent. John was a Seventh day Adventist, who ate a vegetarian diet, as did his patients. Following the cereal's popularity at the sanitarium, William founded the Kellogg Company in 1896 to produce corn flakes with added sugar for the wider public
