Abolitionists, William Lloyd Garrison, George

Abolitionists, William Lloyd Garrison, George Donisthorpe Thompson, and Wendell Phillips, are seated at a table, ca. 1850-51, in daguerreotype by Southworth and Hawes, Boston. Thompson was making his second lecture tour of the US to promote opposition to the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850. During his third trip, in 1864, he met President Abraham Lincoln. He stayed in the country long enough to celebrate the defeat of the Confederacy at Fort Sumter in 1865
