African American Ensign Jesse Brown received his wings at NAS Jacksonville on Oct. 23, 1948. He was the first African-American to be trained by the Navy as an aviator. He was killed in action during a mission over the Chosin Reservoir in Korea on Dec. 4, 1950. (BSLOC_2014_13_125)
