African American heavyweight Boxer Harry Wills and his wife, ca. 1925. Wills was ranked as the number one challenger for the championship. In the 1920s, many white fighters refused to fight Blacks. Jack Dempsey and Wills signed a contract for a 1926 the bout, but the finances collapsed, canceling the fight. (BSLOC_2015_17_82)
