African American sculptor, Selma Burke, with her portrait bust of Booker T. Washington, c. 1936. The portrait was one of her WPA works. Her best known work is a portrait honoring President Franklin Roosevelt and the Four Freedoms, made after FDR sat for drawings she during a 45-minute sitting at the White House. She continued a vital career into her 80s and is represented many museum collections (BSLOC_2017_20_174)
