American Revolution. Battle of Eutaw Springs, South Carolina, Sept 8, 1781. Image depicts the fight around the brick mansion headquarters of British Lt. Col. Alexander Stuart, in his camp at Eutaw Springs. In this 2nd to the last significant battle of the American Revolution, both sides suffered high casualties. British were considered the victors, but they suffered 40% killed, wounded, or captured and fell back to their strongholds on the coast, Charleston and Savannah. Cornwallis surrender at Yorktown soon followed on Oct. 19, 1781
