American Revolution, Saratoga Campaign. Second
American Revolution, Saratoga Campaign. Second Battle of Saratoga, Battle of Bemis Heights (aka Freemans Farm) on Oct 7, 1777. Gen. Benedict Arnold, is in center on a disabled horse, with American troops advancing on Hessian mercenaries. Arnold was seriously wounded late in the battle, after he led vigorous attacks, capturing the extreme right of the British line. The American held the field at the end of the day, and prevented the British armys retreat. The volatile Arnold resented the lack of recognition he received for his heroics, and is thought to be one motivation for his later treason
