American soldiers advance on the left to repulse Natives American attack on their camp during the battle of Tippecanoe, Indiana, Sept. 26, 1811. The massed bayonet charge routed the Indians who began the battle with the advantage of a surprise attack on the American camp before dawn. Each side suffering around 150-175 causalities. It was a strategic victory for the US army, because the Shawnee Prophet leader was entirely discredited when his promise of immunity from bullets failed.
