Andrew Jackson, 7th President of the United States, held office from 1829 to 1837. This is one of two Jackson portraits painted by George P. A. Healy in May 1845, just before Jackson's death. The first was commissioned by King Louis Phillippe of France for his collection of American Statesmen, and a second was made for the Jackson family.
