Andrew Jackson killed Charles Dickenson in a duel. The men quarreled over a horse race bet, which escalated to personal insults, and ultimately, to the deadly duel. This image compresses the 24 feet that separated them, as Jackson fires his pistol, killing Dickinson. Just prior to this shot, Dickenson's bullet hit Jacksons chest, broke his ribs, and stopped close to his heart. He carried the bullet with discomfort for the rest of his life
