Andrew Johnson, 17th President of the United States
Andrew Johnson, 17th President of the United States, became president after Abraham Lincoln's assassination of April 15, 1965, and served out his term until 1869. He survived impeachment by one vote when his Reconstruction policies were opposed by the Congress. Washington Bogart Cooper's presidential portrait is believed to have been painted during Johnson's term of office (BSIC_2020_12_50)
