Anna Elizabeth Dickinson was a popular orator and lecture in the 1860s. She was a progressive who spoke on the abolition of slavery, Republican Party, womens and freedmens, and, temperance. She was named the Civil Wars Joan of Arc for her promotion of the Union. As the first woman to speak in Congress in 1864, she was honored with the attendance of President Lincoln. In the 1870s she turned, with mixed success, to writing books, historical drama, and acting
