Battle of Oriskany, N.Y. August 6, 1777. American Tryon County militia fought with their allied Native Americans, the Oneida. They were six miles from their destination, the relief of Ft. Stanwix, when ambushed by Sir John Johnsons Kings Royal Regiment of New York, and Mohawk and Seneca Indians. The American militia suffered 50% causualties, including Gen. Nicholas Herkimer (seated against tree). The Fort Stanwix siege ended on August 21, 1777, when General Benedict Arnolds relief column arrived
