Battle of Songhwan, July 28, 1894, during the First Sino-Japanese War. This was the first major land battle in Korea between the forces of Meiji Japan and Qing China. The Japanese defeated the Chinese 30 miles south of Seoul. After the battle, both countries declared a state of war (BSLOC_2017_18_73)
