The Beauties of Billiards, Carom on the Dark
The Beauties of Billiards, Carom on the Dark Red, 1869, by Currier and Ives. A carom is a shot in billiards in which the cue ball strikes each of two object balls, in this case, the dark red ball. The shot appears to cause some excitement. At left an African American waiter is tripped by a mishandled cue, while another mans hat is knocked off as he stands too close to the table. This appears to be a gentlemens club, with more men at the bar in the background
