Boston Tea Party, Dec. 16, 1773. The East India Company tea was shipped to four American ports; Charleston, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston. In the other three ports, the tea sat in the ships because the consignees had resigned, orphaning the tea with no one to pay the customs duty. In Boston, the pro-British sons of Governor Hutchinson, did not abandon their business agreements, paid the duty, escalating the conflict, and resulting in the Sons of Liberty destruction of the tea
