The Bostonians Paying the Excise-man, or Tarring and Feathering. British 1774 print depicts the Sons of liberty as violent bullies, attacking a loyalist customs collector, John Malcolm, Jan. 27, 1774. Malcolms assailants forced him to drink enormous quantities of hot tea, under a Liberty Tree with a noose hanging from a branch. In the background, men are throwing tea from ships into water, as was done at the Boston Tea Party
