Brig. Gen. Frederick Funston commanded the Presidio
Brig. Gen. Frederick Funston commanded the Presidio of San Francisco during the 1906 earthquake. The Spanish American War hero declared martial law in response, but did not have legal authority to do so, and martial law was never officially declared. His command to shoot looters on sign resulted in the death of some innocent people (BSLOC_2017_17_38)
