British Major General Archibald Campbell was
British Major General Archibald Campbell was a veteran of the French and Indian War. His army won the Battle of Savannah on Dec. 29, 1778, and captured inland Augusta on January 31, 1779. He served as Provisional Governor of Georgia until his return to England in early 1779. Portrait shows him wearing the star of the Order of the Bath, and with Madrass Fort St. George in the background
