Buffalo hunters dugout home and encampment, ca. 1870. The two hunters pose with their rifles and dog. Unskinned bison meat hangs at right. There are two horses and a wagon, with which they can haul the proceeds of their hunting. The photographer, Robert Benecke of St. Louis, was hired in October 1873, to create promotional images along its line from Kansas to Denver
