Recently the painting was given a sub-title of Adolf and Catharina Croeser when researchers discovered the real identity of the sitters. A poor woman and child beg for alms from the wealthy grain merchant Adolf Croeser in Delft. The richly dressed girl, probably his daughter, Catharina Croeser, aged 13 at the time (BSLOC_2016_3_219)
