Captain John Paul Jones, Continential Navy, by Albert Rosenthal. The 1920 color lithograph was created from a 1780 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon. In 1787 Jones was commissioned as an admiral by the Russian Empire to fight the Ottoman navy in the Black Sea. After being accused of rape in St. Petersburg, he returned to revolutionary Paris in 1790, where he died of natural causes in 1792
