Captain John Paul Jones, copy after Charles Wilson Peales work of c. 1780-92. Jones was a naval commander in the American Revolution when he commanded the 42-gun USS Bonhomme Richard to harass British shipping. His most famous battle was with the British ship, HMS Serapis in 1779
