Chief They-Fear-His-Horse, (aka Young Man Afraid of his Horses). His name means he was so feared in battle that even the sight of his horse would inspire terror. He stands in front of his tepee at Pine Ridge Agency, South Dakota, on Jan. 17, 1891, shortly after the Wounded Knee Massacre. He was a negotiator for the Sioux Nation after the Wounded Knee Massacre. Photo by George E. Trager
