The armies in combat would have occurred hours before Thomas Stonewall Jackson was shot in the evening of May 2nd, when Confederate guards mistook the Generals escort for a detachment of Union troops. General Jackson was wounded in the upper left arm, while riding with his staff, two of whom are shown coming to his aid, perhaps Robert E. Rodes and A.P. Hill
