US Civil War. Battle of Mobile Bay, Aug. 5, 1864. Admiral Farraguts flagship, USS Hartford, fighting the CSS Tennessee. During the battle, Farragut is attributed to say, Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. More accurately, but less colorful, he is believed to have said, Damn the torpedoes! Four bells.
