US Civil War General Franz Sigel was a German refugee from the failed Baden Revolution of 1848. He was a political general who recruited German immigrants into Union forces. At the Battle of Pea Ridge, March 8, 1862, he commanded two divisions and artillery in the Union victory over Confederate General Earl Van Dorn
